Biarritz Golf Club
Designed and built in 1888 by Tom and Willy Dunn, the 18 hole Biarritz Le Phare golf course is the second oldest course on the continent, after Pau Billere, 100 kilometers east of Biarritz. Situated in the centre of Biarritz, le Phare is one of 10 golf courses in the area within a radius of a half hour's drive. Due to the course being on the Atlantic coast, the climate is particularly mild during winter and not too hot during summer. Biarritz Le Phare offers excellent playing conditions, superb greens and a very playable course which is open all year round. The par 69 course of 18 holes is set over a distance of 5376m. Each year many of the big names in the international professional golf circuit (some of whom, like José-Maria Olazabal in 1983, were once players in the Biarritz Cup as amateurs), return regularly to play at le Phare.
Arcangues Golf Club
The Golf d'Arcangues was created in the 1990's by Guy and Jean d'Arcangues on the family property that surrounds the Chateau and the village of Arcangues. Just ten minutes from Biarritz, the Golf d'Arcangues offers a nice balance of woodland holes and holes through open country with beautiful views of the Basque countryside and the Pyrenees. The 72 par course, designed by the American architect Ronald Fream, spreading over 198 acres of oak trees and meadows around the village and the Chateau, winds away from the clubhouse to the South before curving to the North around the chateau before reappearing from the East to finish on the 18th just below the Clubhouse terrace. The Golf d'Arcangues clubhouse, a 15th century restored farmhouse perched on a natural summit overlooking the Basque Country, has a large English bar with lounge area, a corner for bridge players and a big open fireplace for the winter. The restaurant is open for lunch and in summer meals and drinks are served on the spacious terrace facing South over the first and tenth tees and the 18th green.
Bassussary Golf Club
The Makila Golf-Club is a par 72 18 hole course, 6176m. long. This natural site, established on rolling hills and valleys, through a forest of centuries old oak trees, was harmoniously designed by the talented American Architect Rocky Roquemore. With large fairways, the course provides very different holes for golfers of all levels, and for the pleasure of the players a varying country side, with the Pyrenees mountains in the distance and the coast of Biarritz just 5kms away.
Moliets Golf Club
The Golf de Moliets is a remarkable golf course laid out in the pine forests of Les Landes (for 13 holes) and along the coast (5 holes). A typical Robert Trent Jones design, where the technical and strategic challenges reflect an in-depth knowledge of golf. While the more proficient golfer will find this a tough challenge, playing from the forward tees is funnily enough, often more conducive to error. The famous jagged bunkers are a remarkable form of defense for the greens, three of which are virtually blind, and the putting surfaces are neatly but never excessively contoured. The Golf de Moliets, voted Best course in Aquitaine in 2005, is classed in the Top Ten French golf courses and figures in the top 25 European courses. Par 72, 6172m.
Seignosse Golf Club
The Golf de Seignosse in the Landes, Southwest France Designed by the American Architect Robert Van Hagge, the 18 hole par 72 (6129m) Golf de Seignosse has a legendary reputation which will not deceive even the most demanding golfers. Voted best golf course in France by the Association of British Tour Operators to France and 15th European golf course by the magazine Golf World, the Golf de Seignosse is a true work of art recognized by the best players. The course winds through the forest, surrounded by majestic pine and oak trees, a pleasure to play for all golfers.
